Anxiety

What is Anxiety?

Anxiety is what we experience in our body and mind when we worry or are afraid of something that might happen in the future. Some anxiety is good for us; it’s the body’s way to prepare for a potentially threatening situation. However, too much anxiety can become distressing and difficult to manage leading to chronic anxiety.

Anxiety symptoms

While feeling anxious is a natural response, suffering from anxiety long-term can be very intense and can interfere with our quality of life and how we perceive ourselves and others. Anxiety will affect people differently, however, there are common symptoms:

  • rapid and/or irregular heartbeat
  • fast breathing
  • sweating
  • nausea
  • dizziness
  • trouble sleeping
  • feeling irritable
  • lack of concentration
  • panic attacks

Identifying these anxiety triggers can help manage symptoms, while talking to a trained therapist can help alleviate anxiety symptoms.
